21 Jul Well-Being Through Office Design
As one of the leading office fit out companies in the UK we recognise that it is an employer’s responsibility to ensure their staff are comfortable and thriving in the workplace. That’s why when we’re designing office spaces, we make sure that there are some key elements to help staff members’ well being and mental health; after all, many of us spend more time at the office than at home.
We take a look at ways to make your office design enhance your team’s well-being and if you are looking to update your workspace and would like to speak to one of our experts, call us on 01753 829980 or email us.
The future of the office
Offices may change over the next few years. The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on how office space is used and so, when staff members are in the office, it’s important that they have a great place in which to work. Socially distanced desks, hand sanitiser and wipe-clean surfaces will all help your employees fee safe at work, but what else can you do to boost that happiness at work feeling?
It’s no secret that a happy workplace is a productive workplace. When your employees feel appreciated, happy and safe they are more likely to go that extra mile for your business.
You might think that this is a given in most offices, but we’ve seen some truly ‘boxy’ work spaces which inadvertently stifled the amount of natural light coming in to the room. Large windows flood the space with natural light; make sure they are unobstructed and, where appropriate untinted. If you are unable to provide natural light, make sure your lighting fixtures are good quality – bad lighting can be bad for your general health and productivity levels.
You may want a minimalist office, with desktop machines hidden and predominantly cloud storage; but that doesn’t have to mean you skimp on furniture. Some may argue that the most important piece of furniture in an office is the office chair. It is possible in some working scenarios for people to spend long periods of time sitting in their office chairs, so as an employer you need to make sure that you choose comfortable, supportive, customisable and hard-wearing chairs.
There is also research to suggest that standing to work can have a number of health benefits, so it is important to be able to offer a selection of furniture configurations to cater for all requirements.
Air & Water
It seems like an obvious statement, but a healthy workforce is a productive one and so, we’re finding that health and well-being is becoming a cornerstone of modern business. Ensuring that your employees are happy and healthy is a win-win situation; so, make sure your office has plenty of ventilation and fresh air. If you are unable to open windows due to safety policies, ensure that your Air Conditioning system is working efficiently and is well maintained.
You should also make drinking water readily available and you can even supply fresh fruit and healthy snacks to keep your team energised and promote happiness in the workplace.
